What is Tenwek Hospital? Tenwek Hospital is a 300-bed Christian mission hospital located in the rural highlands of Bomet, Kenya, 150 miles northwest of Nairobi. The hospital motto, “We Treat – Jesus Heals,” is Tenwek’s guiding belief and the hope that is offered to each patient. Founded in 1937, today Tenwek serves 600,000 Kipsigis people in the Bomet region and receives referrals from throughout Kenya and surrounding East African countries. Its staff of more than 500 serves 13,000 inpatients and 130,000 outpatients each year.
What is Friends of Tenwek? Friends of Tenwek (FOT), the organization I work for, is a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to developing key relationships and resources to help Tenwek Hospital fulfill its mission. FOT is committed to fostering connections among U.S. physicians and other medical and missionary personnel who have served at Tenwek.
What is your job? In my role as the Director of Development, I will advance the mission of Tenwek Hospital by building donor relationships, managing strategic fundraising, and coordinating print and media communications for FOT. I also support the work of FOT constituents here in the U.S. and am responsible for gift processing and database management.
